Monte Cardada is the home mountain of Locarno/TI. Families with children can discover and experience all sorts of things – such as the Indian village and all along the 1.2 kilometre play trail.
The charming forest of firs on the slopes of Monte Cardada in Ticino conceal some secrets: the coordinated seesaw, the centrifugal force of the carousel, the calling columns and the ringing swing are all waiting to be discovered and tried out. The 1.2 kilometre long play trail on Locarno’s home mountain is a genuine delight for children – and for their parents, because even those who are not keen on walking are happy to join in a hike like this.

The ascent to the heights is by cable car and the panorama is truly something to behold. The view of the Monte Rosa massif, the highest point in Switzerland and the Maggia delta of Lago Maggiore, which separates Locarno and Ascona and is the lowest point in Switzerland, is impressive. The breathtaking view has earned Cardada its nickname of “Pearl of Lago Maggiore”.

It boasts many attractions, including its numerous hiking trails, idyllic landscape, pleasant mild climate, inviting restaurant terraces and, last but not least, a reflex zone path directly next to the upper station of the cable car. Young and old take off their shoes here and experience through the soles of their own bare feet how different floor coverings and materials feel.
The trip on the cable car to the upper station at Cardada is also spectacular. It ascends in only five minutes from Orselina (395 m above sea level) to the upper station at 1340 m. By the way, the cable car is also the work of star architect Mario Botta.
